Spurs: Camelio drops Tanguy Ndombele update

Enrico Camelio has dropped an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

What’s the talk?

In recent comments made while speaking on Italian radio station Radio Radio (via Sport Witness), the Italian journalist revealed that, according to a source in London, both AS Roma and Lazio are interested in a move for the 26-year-old – who has been deemed surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte – in the summer transfer window.

Regarding the interest in the France international, Camelio said: “We received a message around 1.30 am from a London source, and informed us of the interest of Rome and Lazio in the midfielder.

“We then crossed paths, certainly finding confirmations on the Biancocelesti, while we are working on the Giallorossi. [Jose] Mourinho wants a powerful player and he is the ideal figure. He would come on loan.”

Conte will be buzzing

Considering just how poor Ndombele has been for Spurs ever since his £63m move to north London in 2019, the news that both Roma and Lazio are interested in taking the midfielder off Tottenham’s hands this summer is sure to have left Conte buzzing.

Indeed, over his nine Premier League appearances in 2021/22 – only three of which came under the 52-year-old manager – the £27m-rated talent was in disappointing form. He scored just one goal, provided one assist and created one big chance for his team-mates, completing an average of just 0.1 interceptions, 1.1 tackles and 25.6 passes and winning 3.6 duels per game.

These returns saw the £200k-per-week Frenchman, who John Wenham dubbed “laughable”, average a shocking SofaScore match rating of 6.58, ranking him as Spurs’ second-worst performer in the league.

However, it was not only last season in which Ndombele turned in largely below-par performances, with the 26-year-old also earning uninspiring seasonal SofaScore ratings of 6.85 in 2019/20 and 6.90 in 2020/22.

As such, considering his hefty weekly wage and his disastrous returns on the pitch, the news that both Roma and Lazio seem serious in their interest in the former Lyon starlet is undoubtedly fantastic news for both Tottenham and the player, as it is clear that a parting of the ways would best suit both parties this summer.

Leeds: Graham Smyth drops mystery striker claim

Leeds United correspondent Graham Smyth has claimed that the Whites are looking at a move for an unnamed teenage striker.

The Lowdown: Academy additions on the cards

The Whites are working on bolstering Jesse Marsch’s senior squad by already signing Brenden Aaronson in a big-money transfer. Rasmus Kristensen looks set to be the next first-team arrival, however, Victor Orta is still looking to add to the club’s academy ranks.

Phil Hay has claimed that Birmingham City midfielder George Hall and West Ham forward Sonny Perkins are on the club’s U23s radar, and another young attacking target also seems to be catching the club’s eye.

The Latest: Smyth’s claim

Smyth shared a story for The Yorkshire Evening Post on Thursday evening to provide a transfer update.

The reliable reporter touched on moves for Kristensen, links to Hall and Celtic goalkeeper Rory Mahady before adding that Leeds are looking at a ‘16-year-old forward plying his trade in the Midlands’ who is wanted by a ‘number of other Premier League clubs’.

The Verdict: Senior striker needed too

It’s good to see that Orta is still looking to bring some of the best young talent to Elland Road, with the Whites reaping the rewards in the first team over recent years when it comes to players like Illan Meslier and Joe Gelhardt.

However, although the club look to be eyeing up to four academy signings, they should prioritise bringing in a senior striker due to Patrick Bamford’s injury struggles last season.

The 28-year-old started just seven league games due to a number of problems, so after signing Kristensen, it would be wise if the club brought in a proven forward to potentially partner Bamford in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 system under Jesse Marsch.

In other news: Victor Orta now spotted 5.6 miles from stadium of ‘quality’ Leeds target dubbed the ‘new Drogba’.

Joao Moutinho’s future still uncertain

Wolves midfielder Joao Moutinho still faces an uncertain future with the 35-year-old’s contract set to expire next month with manager Bruno Lage keen to keep the Portuguese veteran on.

What’s the story?

That’s according to Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias (via Sport Witness) who claim that Lage has asked the Wolves hierarchy to offer Moutinho a new contract whilst Europa Conference League winners AS Roma are reportedly keen.

Roma, managed by ex-Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, have offered the 35-year-old the opportunity to take on a new challenge in Italy with his fellow countryman Mourinho reportedly appreciative of ‘the characteristics and personality of the player.’

Moreover, there is a suggestion that Moutinho could become the Portuguese manager’s assistant in the future with the midfielder turning 36 in September.

Lage will be furious

Although some supporters will accept the idea of Moutinho leaving as a free agent, Lage will be furious that his wishes to keep the experienced midfielder at Molineux have been ignored if a contract extension isn’t offered.

Despite not being a long-term option for Wolves, the £100k-per-week Moutinho has been excellent since arriving from Monaco in 2018, making 176 appearances for the Golden Boys in his four seasons in the Black Country.

Furthermore, Match of the Day commentator Gary Mowbray once referred to the midfielder as being a “Rolls-Royce.”

With 144 caps for Portugal alongside a total of 774 club appearances, Moutinho’s experience is second-to-none and therefore his potential departure will certainly be a major blow.

Moreover, it appears likely that fellow midfielder Ruben Neves will be seeking a new challenge after five years at Wolves, with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal keen on the 25-year-old.

Therefore, if both Moutinho and Neves are to depart, Wolves will need to put together a brand new midfield which will certainly be a risk.

However, it could also provide Lage with the opportunity to build a team of players he wants with the vast majority of the current squad players he inherited.

The 35-year-old’s Molineux farewell was always going to come within the next year or two but to have his request of offering the midfielder a contract extension ignored, Lage will be furious if his fellow countryman leaves as a free agent.

Journalist drops Sadio Mane transfer claim

Sadio Mane has made progress regarding a summer move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, according to reliable journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Lowdown: Mane to leave Liverpool

On Sunday, numerous journalists reported the big news that the Senegal star is set to leave the Reds this summer, having spent six memorable years at Anfield.

The 30-year-old is believed to be keen on a fresh challenge while he is still at his peak, with Bayern Munich seemingly the front-runners to snap him up.

A fresh claim further suggests that a move to the Bundesliga could be on the cards for Mane.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-34/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Plettenberg provides Mane transfer update

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Sky Sports journalist Plettenberg talked up the chances of Mane joining Bayern, claiming that talks are ongoing between player and club. The reporter tweeted:

“Update #Mané: Talks and negotiations with #FCBayern ongoing and confirmed. All parties speak about a possible 3-y-c until 2025 and a transfer fee of around €30m + Bonus. Agreement is possible.”

The Verdict: Undisputed Liverpool legend

While it is hugely sad to see Mane move on, it is hard to begrudge him one last big move in his career, much in the same way that Thiago opted to trade Bayern for Liverpool at a similar age in 2020.

There is no doubt that the Senegalese superstar is a true Anfield legend, having won every trophy possible in his time at the club, also scoring 120 goals in 269 Reds appearances.

He should be remembered as one of the greatest attacking players in the club’s history, proving to be Jurgen Klopp’s first great signing at Liverpool and hitting the ground running from day one, when he scored a stunning goal at Arsenal on his debut in a 4-3 win which ultimately proved crucial in getting the Reds back into the Champions League as they pipped the Gunners for fourth place that season.

Leeds: Valentin Castellanos ‘one to watch’

Leeds United could make a move for New York City FC forward Valentin Castellanos this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Castellanos links

The Whites were credited with an interest in Castellanos back in February when they reportedly made contact with the forward’s representatives and were willing to pay £10.3m for the 23-year-old, who has been hailed as ‘top-class’ by Ronny Deila.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-44/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Castellanos, primarily a striker who can also play on the wing, has contributed to 76 goals in 126 games for the MLS side.

The Argentine is under contract until 2025, but it appears as if a move to Elland Road is still a possibility.

The Latest: Leeds update

Jones provided GiveMeSport with a Leeds transfer guide on Thursday evening, shortly after Brenden Aaronson was announced as the club’s first summer signing.

When it came to who else the Whites could sign this summer, Castellanos was mentioned, with Jones describing it as ‘one to keep an eye on’.

The Verdict: Needed?

Leeds lacked quality in front of goal last season, with star striker Patrick Bamford limited to just seven Premier League starts due to a number of injuries.

Wide man Raphinha was the club’s top scorer with 11 goals, however, it looks as if he could be on the move to Barcelona over the coming months.

Therefore, bringing in a player like Castellanos, who has scored goals for fun in the USA, appears to be a shrewd move and would help Jesse Marsch implement his preferred 4-2-2-2 system in his first full season in charge, possibly striking up a partnership with Bamford.

Man City: Journalist makes surprise Kounde claim

Journalist Rudy Galetti has now made a surprise Manchester City transfer claim involving 2020 target and Sevilla star Jules Kounde.

The Lowdown: Sky Blues set for summer reshuffle?

Pep Guardiola, after securing the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2022/2023 Premier League season, now has other potential additions in the pipeline.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-latest-developments-3/” title=”Man City latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

According to reports, City are chasing a new left-back and central midfielder heir to club legend and long-serving mainstay Fernandinho who is set to leave Eastlands this summer.

The likes of Frenkie de Jong and even Paul Pogba have been linked with joining Guardiola to fill the latter position, yet in a surprise possible twist, Galetti now hints that the title-contenders may even strengthen at centre-half.

The Latest: Galetti makes surprise Kounde claim…

The reporter, sharing news on late Tuesday, claims this summer may be the time for Kounde to ‘say goodbye’ to Sevilla as the likes of Spurs, Newcastle and Man United keep tabs.

However, making a further statement within the attached article, Galetti says ‘not to underestimate’ the ‘position’ of Man City after Guardiola personally contacted the France international over a move in 2020.

Hinting the Sky Blues could sign Kounde this summer, the transfer source has refused to rule them out of the ‘open’ race.

The Verdict: Make a move?

Given Guardiola’s need to seal a suitable replacement for Fernandinho, not to mention his goal to find a natural left-back to balance the squad (Daily Mail), we believe strengthening at centre-half is an arguable waste of resources for the time being.

City have an abundantly strong pool of talent in that department with Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte to choose from when fully fit.

That being said, if one of Stones or Ake were to leave the Etihad Stadium in search of more game time this summer, there is little denying Kounde would strengthen the side.

According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old has averaged the joint-highest number of aerial duels won per 90 for Sevilla in La Liga this campaign whilst also playing the third-most league minutes.

A mainstay, battler and still very young – there is little wonder his club refused to sell for less than his €80 million (£68m) release clause in the last transfer window.

Called a ‘world class’ player by former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson, if City were to lose one of their star central defensive contingent, Kounde could be considered a more-than capable alternative.

Celtic must unleash Bosun Lawal

Celtic have had a rather busy week in terms of what’s been happening on and off the pitch at the Parkhead club.

After officially being declared champions on Wednesday following their 1-1 draw against Dundee United, the Hoops topped their campaign off with a blistering 6-0 win over Motherwell at Celtic Park.

Prior to Saturday’s final game of the season, it was revealed that Celtic’s veteran duo of Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton will be leaving the club after nearly ten years of service.

Looking ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window and the Bhoys’ next campaign, rather than dive into the transfer market to find suitable replacements for their departing duo, one figure that Ange Postecoglou could look to unleash is Bosun Lawal.

The Hoops signed the defensive midfielder back in July last year from Watford’s youth ranks on a three-year deal.

Shortly before leaving the Hornets, the teenager won their Academy Player of the Season award, highlighting just how much of an exciting talent he is.

Having played as a holding midfielder and as a centre-back in the past, this could make him an ideal long-term replacement for Bitton, who has also been deployed in those positions throughout his career.

After scoring on his debut for the Celtic Reserves in a 2-1 defeat against Bonnyrigg Rose, Tommy McIntyre had this to say about the youngster.

He said: “I thought he was outstanding, very composed and good at stepping out in front of their striker who was a handful.

“He tops it off by scoring a goal and was unlucky not to have had another with the one that was chopped off for offside.

“The fact he’s only been in with us for two days, I’m absolutely delighted with the impact he’s made.”

With this in mind, it seems as though the young Irishman can not only be a useful and versatile figure at the back, but he can also be a goal threat as well.

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney has also shared his praise for the youngster by calling him a “strong and powerful” figure on the pitch.

While Postecoglou may want to add a more experienced figure to his squad this summer to replace either Bitton or Rogic, giving Lawal his first taste of senior football with the Hoops should be in his plans at some point in their upcoming campaign.

Not only could this give the 56-year-old the chance to unearth another one of Celtic’s exciting youth prospects, but it could also give him the chance to save the club millions in potential transfer fees further down the line.

Aston Villa: Gerrard eyeing up swoop for Joe Gomez

Aston Villa will be heavily linked with Joe Gomez alongside several other central defenders during the upcoming window as a result of missing out on Matthias Ginter, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Number one target

In a report published by Football Insider just last week, it was revealed that the 28-year-old German turned down a big-money move to the Midlands and has instead decided to join Freiburg from Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer.

As a result, Steven Gerrard is now believed to have made Liverpool’s Gomez the number one target on his wish-list this summer and could be set to make a move for him ahead of the start of next season.

The centre-back still has two years remaining on his current contract with the Merseyside outfit, but after falling down the pecking order to the likes of Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate under Jurgen Klopp, he could be tempted into looking elsewhere when the campaign is over.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/aston-villa-latest-updates/” title=”Aston Villa latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Gerrard eyeing up Gomez

After failing to secure the signing of Ginter, Jones now expects there to be plenty of names doing the rounds at Villa Park. He told GiveMeSport: “I honestly think Villa will be linked with loads of centre-backs between now and June.

“Joe Gomez is obviously one that Gerrard has had his eye on for a while now with his contract situation – still possible that Liverpool renew that, though, so he’s waiting to see.”

The Verdict: An ideal candidate

The 41-year-old boss has been playing the pairing of captain Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa at the back for the majority of the season, but after finding themselves sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, it would seem that Gerrard isn’t too happy with his current options and will look to bolster his back-line before anything else.

The £19.8m-rated Gomez has only played 282 minutes in the top-flight this term, but has still got plenty of experience under his belt, having made a total of 141 senior career appearances for Liverpool, showing that he could add some much-needed assurance to the backline.

Gomez, who was once dubbed a “top-quality” player by his teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, will no doubt already have an established relationship with the Villa manager given both of their previous connections to the Reds, and this could prove to be the deciding factor when it comes down the defender choosing where the next chapter of his career will be.

In other news… a reliable journalist has revealed that Villa are set to hold contract talks with one of their star players at the end of the season.

Celtic aiming for double transfer deal

Celtic have seen a raft of new players make moves to Parkhead during the previous summer and winter transfer windows.

While most joined on permanent deals, the Hoops also have some players in their squad who are only there on loan until the end of the current season.

As the Bhoys are on the verge of securing the Premiership title, it seems as though a update has emerged regarding some behind-the-scenes activity at Lennoxtown over a couple of potential deals which could take place in the summer.

What’s the news?

Speaking in his latest press conference before the 4-1 win over Hearts on Saturday, Postecoglou touched upon the current situation regarding the futures of on-loan Celtic duo Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 56-year-old said: “We are in discussions with them obviously, and as I have said all along, with these kind of things it’s never a simple process.

“But both have had unbelievable years for us and been outstanding contributors and both are really happy here.

“Our intent is to try and keep them at our football club, but these things need a point where all parties agree. I am hopeful we will get to that point but at this point, we are not quite there yet.”

To highlight how crucial the duo have been for the Hoops this season, with Carter-Vickers in defence and Jota in attack, Postecoglou’s side have the best record in terms of scoring and conceding goals in the league, with the loan pair both playing big parts.

Focusing on Jota, with nine goals and 10 assists to his name in 27 league outings, the winger is listed as the highest-rated player currently in Celtic’s squad according to WhoScored, averaging a superb match rating of 7.59 for the campaign.

Meanwhile, Carter-Vickers has been a rock at the back for the Bhoys, with a total of 38 interceptions and 20 tackles under his belt as their main centre-back alongside Carl Starfelt.

Taking this into account, it’ll be great news for the Celtic fans to hear that their club are intent on securing permanent deals for the dynamic duo in the summer.

If the club are able to sign both players for good, this would put Postecoglou’s side in great shape to repeat their successes this season in 2022/23.

West Ham plotting swoop for Tete Morente

West Ham are nearing a swoop for Elche winger Tete Morente as David Moyes aims to start his transfer business early.

What’s the word?

That’s according to the Sunday Mirror, who reported in their print edition (May 1st, page 74) that the Premier League side has been in early contact with the player over a potential move.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-this-weeks-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more” title= “Read the latest West Ham news!”]

Elche are asking for a fee of around £7m for the 25-year-old who is keen on making the move to England and playing in the top flight.

A new mega-money talent?

Morente isn’t exactly a household name and despite scoring against Barcelona earlier this season, he only has three goals and three assists throughout the whole campaign, not numbers that will put the fear into Premier League defenders.

Despite this, he is only 25 and has plenty of time on his side to continue his development, it could well be a shrewd signing for the Hammers in the long run.

Moyes has seen his side reach unprecedented heights this campaign, still in the hunt for a top-six spot and chasing a historic Europa League final, it’s looking like exciting times for the West Ham faithful.

The squad does need to be bolstered in an attacking sense though, with Michael Antonio their only designated centre forward, it could well be that Morente gets to put his versatility to good use.

Although a left-winger by trade, Morente has some solid defensive stats which could help West Ham on top of his 14 career goals.

He features in the 89th percentile of blocks in Europe’s top five leagues (1.75 per game) and in the 81st percentile of aerials won (1.13), proving that Moyes could be getting more than just a goalscoring threat.

Furthermore, he is compared to one of the very best in Spain, with the flanker who has 14 career goals being compared to Real Sociedad’s £63m-rated talent Mikel Oyarzabal.

On that basis, this signing begins to look a little more appealing for the Irons faithful.
